The Evaluation and Analysis of University Efficiency Based on DEA-Tobit Two-Stage Method

Abstract

This paper evaluates 59 universities' efficiency using data envelopment analysis(DEA) method.Furthermore,different type universities are compared in scores of efficiency.On this basis,the Tobit model is applied to analyze the factors affecting efficiency.The empirical results show that the ratio of master instructor and PhD supervisor,Ph.D.teacher proportion,research funding proportion are positively related to efficiency of these universities.While research funding per teacher is negatively related to the efficiency.In order to improve efficiency,universities should increase the ratio of funding for research.At the same time,more teachers should engage in scientific research activities.
