The Origin and Development of Manchu Characters

The Manchu language and characters had taken special position in Qing Dynasty, and once had been called national language and writing. Especially in early stage, they had played essential roles in the development of economy and culture. With the progress of society, however, they gradually declined out of use. From the end of 16th century to the end of 19th century, Manchu characters had undergone a historical course from foundation, perfection and development to declination.
