MEANINGS OF THE WORD "MEANING

Abstract

Since the 20th.Century,the study on meanings of languages has been one of the central problems of philosophy,logic and linguisitics.Philosophers,logicians and linguists have given various definitions on the word meaning,but no agreement has been reached among them.This thesis has taken some examples in combination with several traditional meaning types to show clearly different understandings of the word meaning.At the same time,it has analyzed and contrasted several typical theories on meaning.
