Abstract

Objective To investigate diastolic dysfunction of left ventricle in aged hypertensives and the effect of blood pressure lowering treatment. Methods 87 hospitalized elderly hypertensives,35 with stage 1 hypertension(group H1),40 with stage 2 hypertension(group H2)and 12 with stage 3 hypertension(group H3). All patients received captopril for 3 months. Left ventricular function after and before treatment was observed by echocardiography. Normaltensives was considered as control group(group C). Results Left ventricular diastolic function in hypertensives decreased compared with normaltensives. After treatment, the degree of blood pressure significantly decreased, and hypertrophy of left ventricle reversed slightly, EPFV、APFVand A/E also improved. Changes above were obvious in group H1 . Conclusions Left ventricular dysfunction appeared in early stage of hypertension, early treatment can improve hypertrophy and diastoic dysfunction of left ventricular.
