Abstract

Views of grammar evolving from traditional to contemporary indicate that grammatical ability should cover morphology, syntax and textual grammar of both written and spoken language. Typical models of communicative competence (CC) show that linguistic and socio-cultural competence of language constitute the grammatical competence in the broad sense. Based on the aforementioned grammar concepts and CC models, grammar teaching and learning in English should be understood in the light of new grammar concept and grammatical competence model, and the basic dimensions of pedagogical grammar of English should be extended to textual, spoken and cultural grammar as well as the integration of them.
