The Experience and Enlightenment on the Spatial Structure Development of the Western Large Cities

During the industrialization,the spatial structures of large western cities develop from single-core to multi-core ones,from small-scale to large-scale ones,from simple function to complicated function ones,and have presented some evolution laws.In the developing process,some expansion modes of spatial structures have been shaped,such as ecological barrier control,core cluster combined with the axial radiation structure,suburban towns and cities,and regional group towns and cities,etc.These experiences of western cities show that under the impact of different levels of economy and production modes,spatial structures have displayed significant characteristics in different stages.The technological means like traffic and communication are the hinge factors to achieve the transformation of the spatial structures.With the adjustment of the internal structure,promotion of the construction of new cities in suburbs,and advance in the regional cooperation in group towns,the spatial structures will be transformed to multi-core ones.
