Transvenous Embolization Treatment of Cavernous Dural Arteriovenous Fistula via the inferior petrosal sinus pathway

Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficiency of treatment of cavernous dural arterinvenous fistulas via the transvenous approach.Mettlods The involved cavernous sinuses were catheterized via femoral vein-inferior petrosal sinus approach and embolized with coils and NBCA.Results 3 patients with cavernous dural arteriovenous fistulas were embolized.Immediate complete angiographic obliteration of the fistulas was achieved in these patients.Headache and vomiting were the most common symptoms after embolization.The follow-up period ranged from 3 months to 5 years.Conclusion Transvenous catheterization and embolization of cavernous sinus is a safe and effective way to treat cavernous dural arteriovenous fistulas.
