Abstract

With the continuous media(CM) source and its application increasing explosively nowadays,it is urgent to address some deficiencies of CM storage systems. This paper focuses on CM storage system integration and explores an innovative approach, virtual hierarchical storage architecture(VHSA).VHSA provides a high performance,a high manageability and a low TCO,and also offers tighter integration with media assets management(MAM).VHSA adopts both storage virtualization and storage hierarchy technique to manage more complex and numerous storage devices or subsystems.Storage devices(or subsystems),such as SSD,SAN,NAS and DAS,are classified into three classes by its performance, and then virtualized as three storage pools.Different media assets can be stored on different storage pool in order to archive maximum results.Meanwhile,VHSA also provides a seamless means for migrating and retrieving archival media assets.Furthermore,VHSA goes one step beyond hierarchical storage management(HSM) by provides information to MAM and offers tighter integration with MAM.
