Intraocular lens implantation in aphakic eyes after vitrectomy

Abstract

Objective To investigate the characteristics and surgical selection of intraocular lens implantation (IOL) for aphakic eyes after vitrectomy.Methods A pars plana irrigating port was made to maintain intraocular pressure (IOP),IOL was implanted into anterior chamber or posterior chamber by scleral fixation through scleral tunnel.The follow up time was from 3 25 months.Results In all of the 17 eyes,visual acuity was 0.1 0.2 in 6 eyes(35.2%).≥0.3 in 11 eyes(64.7%).There was no difference between anterior IOL implantation and posterior chamber IOL fixation in visual acuity and complication.The main complications included vitreous hemorrhage in 2 eyes and IOL capture in another eyes.Conclusion IOL implantation for aphakic eyes after vitrectomy,vitreous irrigating and scleral tunnel incision can effectively maintain IOP during surgery.
