Abstract
Objective To explore the etiologic investigation of 523 children with short stature.Methods Five hundred and twenty-three children were collected,among them 365 were males (69.79%),158 were females(30.21%),the average age was(10.91±3.64) years.All of the children were collected detail medical history and taken both physical and laboratory examination.Results One hundred and fifteen cases(21.99%) were diagnosed as growth hormone deficiency(GHD),100 cases(19.12%) were diagnosed as constitutional delay of growth and puberty,97 cases(18.55%) were diagnosed as familial short stature,79 cases(15.11%) were diagnosed as idiopathic short stature.The rest of the short statures were attribute for the other reasons.Conclusions Endocrinopathy can cause short stature.GHD is a common disease among them.Some hypothyroidism has not special countenance and has no difference in intelligence development from others,so the investigation of thyroid function is important for these children.For short stature children,correct treatment is according to the pathogeny.After an assessment of short stature has been made,appropriate therapy may be instituted.
