Expression and clinical significance of serum leptin in patients with chronic hepatitis B

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of serum leptin in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB).Methods The levels of serum leptin in 65 CHB(group CHB),cirrhosis(group LC) induced by hepatitis B patients and 15 healthy volunteers(group C) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Liver function was examined by automatic biochemistry analyzer.Results Serum leptin level in group CHB and LC was significantly higher than that in group C(P0.01).Leptin level of female was significantly higher than that of male in all three groups(P0.01).Serum leptin level in groups of CHB and LC significantly decreased along with the improvement of liver function(P0.01).Conclusion Expression levels of serum leptin in the CHB patients increase with the severity of hepatic disease,which may be considered as an index for evaluating therapeutic effect and prognosis.Serum leptin level is higher in female than that in male.
