Expression and Clinical Significance of E-cadherin and β-catenin in Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of E-Cadherin and β-catenin in renal clear cell carcinoma(RCCC).Methods The expression of E-Cadherin、β-catenin proteins in 62 cases of RCCC tissue and 10 normal renal tissue samples were analyzed by immunohistochemistry staining.Results The abnormal expression rates of E-Cadherin、β-catenin in RCCC were 67.7%(42/62)and 77.4%(48/62) respectively.The expression of E-Cadherin、β-catenin was significantly positively related with clinical stage and pathological grade of RCCC(P0.01).The abnormal rate of E-Cadherin、β-catenin was associated with the invasion and metastasis(P0.05).Conclusion The lower expression of E-Cadherin and β-catenin in renal clear cell carcinoma(RCCC) are related with the differentiation and malignancy and they may serve as a marker for assessing the clinical stage,pathological grade and progression of renal cell carcinoma.Determination of E-Cadherin andβ-catenin plays an important role in predicting tumor invasion.
