Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of vitrectomy asssociated with extraction of foreign bodies in eyeball wall. Methods Retrospective analysis was done on clinical records of 21 patients(21 eyes) having undergone vitrectomy complicated with extraction of foreign bodies in eyeball inner wall. Results The foreign bodies were extracted successfully in all cases. Some complications such as corneal laceration, cataract, retinal detachment and endophthalmitis were cured.Postoperation visual acuity was improved in 6 eyes(28.6%) and did not change in 8 eyes(38.1%). Postoperative complications included choroidal detachment in 1 eye and retinal detachment in 1 eye. Conclusion Vitrectomy combined with extraction of intraocular foreign bodies has high achievement ratio and can cure some complications. It is the better selection for treating foreign bodies in eyeball inner wall.
