Abstract
The distribution, ecology, growth characteristics and taxonomy of Armillaria species reported in China have been described. Problems associated with retrogression and rejuvenation of Armillaria strains, and the causes of cavity formation during Gastrodia elata growth and development, have been analyzed. Cross-breeding protocols for creating superior and stable Armillaria strains possessing characteristics for sustainable cultivation of G. elata have been proposed.
