Investment of Viral Pathogens in Children Hospitalized with Acute Lower Respiratory Infection

Abstract

Objective To investigate viral etiology of acute lower respiratory infection(ALRI) in children hospitalized and provide viral etiology evidence of diagnosis of ALRI.Methods The four respiratory viruses IgM including respiratory syncitail(RSV),adenovirus(ADV),influenza(IV) and parainfluenza(PIV) were detected in venous blood on the 1st hospital day for the children with ALRI in respiratory department of the maternal and children hospital of Jiujiang from October 2008 to May 2009.Statistical analysis was done in all positive specimens.Results In totally 179 samples,21.7%(39/179) was shown to be viral positive.34(87.2%) samples were RSV,1(2.6%)samples were ADV,2(5.1%)samples were IV,2(5.1%)samples were PIV.The peak season of RSV infection was between January and December.Most children with RSV infection were yonger than 3 years old.The ratio of male to female was 2.09∶1.Conclusion RSV is the most common viral pathogen in children hospitalized with acute lower respiratory infection in our hospital,the second one was IV and PIV.
