Abstract
To explore the features of serotypes for Salmonella in Fujian and the relationship to human diseases. Salmonellae from persons, animals, food, sewage, environment were investigated in 50 counties or more in Fujian. 3 120 strains of Salmonella had been isolated in 1975-2003. These strains were divided into 20 serogroups (subgroups) and 82 serotypes (var.), in which 7 serotypes (var.) and a strain (Ⅲb,48:a:z55) with heat-labile K antigen were discovered for the first time in China. Five subgroups (B, C1, C2, D1, E1) and 14 serotypes (Salmonella Typhimurium, Derby, Typhi, etc) were prevalent in Fujian. Serotypes in group A-F were the most common and in non-group A-F had been detected in increasing tendency since 1990s. 2 292 strains belonged to 56 serotypes (Var.) had been isolated from persons, of which 1 283 strains belonged to 33 serotypes were from patients. The health hazard by Salmonella Typhimurium and Typhi was the most one in recent 10 years. There are a variety of Serotypes of Salmonella in Fujian, and they are important and common pathogens for food poisoning and infectious diarrhoea. Salmonella surveillance is of great importance for the disease control and prevention.
