Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the alkaloids of Coptis linearisepala.METHODS The alkaloids were isolated and purified by silica column chromatography. Their structures were identified by spectral analysis.RESULTS Seven protoberberine alkaloids were isolated and identified as berberine, jatrorrhizine, palmatine, columbamine, coptisine, worenin and groenlandicine.CONCLUSION All these alkaloids were isolated from this plant for the first time. The comparison of the alkaloid sorts between Caolian and other Coptis plants shows no absolute sameness. Alkaloid sorts may be one of gists for classification and authentication of Coptis plants.
