Abstract
Hainan's ethnic Li has adopted the practice of monogyny as early as before the founding of PRC,but the primitive outside-tribe group marriage still survived,and in diversified forms in different places. The custom of Fangliao,prevalent in areas inhabited by ethnic Li is a typical type of such marriage. It analyzes its long-standing reason and the difference from Azhu marriage in Yongning on the basis of elaborating the essential feature of fangliao marriage.
