ObjectiveTo explore the effects of Aqueous extract of Arillus Longan(ALA) on learning and memory ability in scopolamine-induced dementia rats and its possible mechanism. MethodsFifty male rats were randomly divided into five groups and ALA given by P.O.for consecutive 21 days.Learning and memory ability was continually tested by Morris water maze on the 16th day.Drugs were intraperitoneally given 20 minutes before the test for rats in each group,normal saline in normal control group,scopolamine 3 mg·kg-1 in other groups.All rats were sacrificed to obtain the serum,hippocampus and cerebral cortex on the 21st day.The activities of SOD,GSH-Px and the content of MDA in serum,hippocampus and cerebral cortex were investigated. ResultsCompared with the dementia model control group,ALA obviously improved the learning and memory ability in scopolamine-induced rats,significantly increased the activities of SOD,GSH-Px and decreased the content of MDA in serum,hippocampus and cerebral cortex. ConclusionALA can significantly improve the learning and memory ability in learning and memory disorder rats induced by scopolamine,and its relevant mechanism may be closely related to its antioxidant effect.
