Abstract
Reverse engineering is an important tool for reconstructing CAD solid model from discrete data of components. It can also be very useful in shortening die development cycle, increasing products quality and establishing design-manufacturing systems. In this paper, some key technologies in reverse engineering were analyzed, including the acquisition of point-cloud data, surface reconstruction and 3D modeling.Furthermore, the data switching between reverse engineering and other CAD/CAM system, the principle, method and process of die surface reverse engineering were introduced. Then an example of application was presented.
