Abstract

Objective To study the effect of propolis from west Hubei in prevention and treatment of diabetes.Methods Diabetic animal models were produced by alloxan.The rats were divided into 5 groups:normal group,model group,low dosage group,middle dose group and higher dose group.The normal group,model group received the normal saline by intragastric administration,and the low dosage group,middle dose group and higher dose group received the propolis of 30 mg/kg,60 mg/kg,and 90 mg/kg respectively by intragastric administration.After 3 weeks of consecutive intragastric administration,the blood glucose indices in rats were detected.Results Propolis had lowered blood glucose of all rats,and it could significantly resist the damage in rats caused by alloxan.Conclusions Propolis can play the role of prevention and treatment of diabetes by regulating the organism in rats.
