Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the role of anato-mizing the recurrent laryngeal nerve(RLN) in preventingthe injury in thyroid surgery.METHODS The clinical dataof 174 cases with thyroid tumour were retrospectiveanalysed, of which 84 cases(116 sides) were per-formed RLN exposur e and 90 cases RLN non-exposure. RESULTS Temporary nerve injury was in one(1.2 %) in RLN exposure groups. Temporary nerve in-jury and permanent nerve injury occurred respec-ti vely in 3 cases(6.7 %) in RLN non-exposuregroup.There was significant difference between twogroups(P 0.05).CONSLUSION RLN injury can be re-duced by revealing RLN in thyroid surgery. Skilledgrasped anatomy charastiteristic of RLN and correctidentification of RLN were essential in thyroid surgery.
