Abstract

Objective To understand the status of chronic filarial patients in Shanghai. Methods All the registered chronic filarial patients was visited. Relevant examinations were made, health care was given and the results were analyzed. Results Till the end of 2006, 783 chronic filariasis patients distributed in 102 towns of 9 districts where filariasis was once endemic have been followed up. About 86.2% of chronic filariasis patients were above 70 years old averagely 77. There were 701 cases with lymphoedema and elephantiasis patients, 3 cases with hydrocele, 11 cases with chyluria, and 152 cases had onset of acute lymphadenitis and lymphangits in whole year. Thirty-six patients had infection on the focus and 29 patients had the ulcers. There 73 (9.32%) were without any clinial signs. There were 205 patients suffered from various diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes and elder dementia. Conclusion More attention should be paid to the chronic filariasis patients in Shanghai.
