A Look at Pu Songling's Attitude towards Love in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio

Abstract

Through the analysis of the works in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, this paper probes into the complexity of Pu's attitude towards sentiment and love as well as the significance of his audacious critique of both feudalism and feudal ethical code. Moreover, the paper reveals the conflict and perplexity that Pu experienced in his critique of and compromise to feudal ethical code. The causes behind this ambivalent mentality are also explored in this paper.
