Abstract
The Holocene submarine delta of the old Huanghe River in the South Huanghai Sea, composed of the submarine delta plain and the outer steep-sloped zone, is clear in shape. Since Holocene, the Huanghe River often overflowed its banks, moved its course to the south and once emptied itself into the sea from the North Jiangsu. Large amounts of silt sediments deposited there produced the delta. Its development has experienced constructive phases and destructive phases. In different areas of the delta, these destructive phases have different forms. In this paper, the depth of the sediments, the sedimentation rate and characteristics of the delta are explained and discussed, and its future evolution as well as its effects on the North Jiangsu Plain and on the sea area are also estimated.
