Abstract
Narrow germplasm base has been more and more restricting the maize breeding and production in China.It is very necessary to enhance,improve and develop maize germplasm.In this paper,the theory of heterotic group and patterns,population improvement,excavating elite landraces,introducing and utilization of tropical and subtropical excellent germplasm,distant crossing with wild relative materials and the utilization of biotechnology used for maize germplasm enhancement,improvement and development are discussed.
