Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of endotoscopic myringoplasty. Methods Endotoscopic myringoplasty was performed with sandwich technique for traumatic perforation of tympanic membrane and chronic suppurative otitis media of 101 patients. Results The perforations of tympanic membranes in 101 patients were successfully repaired with one myringoplasty.Reexamination three months after operation revealed small perforations in 2 patients,of which upper respiratory tract infection in 1 patient and small gap in the other one due to poor blood supply with external auditory tympanic membrane burn, which became dry after dressing change. The healing rate of tympanic membrane perforation was 98%.Hearing examination after six months of operation showed that the average threshold of pure tone air conduction was 21.6dB.The difference in threshold between pure tone bone-conduction and air-conduction was only 12.1dB.Conclusion Endoscope is easy to manipulate with a clear operation field, and can, therefore,be used in myringoplasty for all kinds of tympanic membrane perforations using sandwich technique.
