Abstract
Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have been thought as one of the most promising cold cathode materials of electron field emitters in field emission display(FED).CNTs have a very low threshold electric field for field emission and a high emission current density which will make them be more apt to technological applications than common hot cathode materials and other field emission cold cathode materials. This paper describes the current research on synthetic techniques, field emission mechanism of CNTs and reviews the field emission properties of CNTs.
