Abstract

The two-step heating carbonization process was used to prepare highly activated wood charcoal.The effect of holding time and temperature on the adsorptive properties of activated wood charcoal was discussed.The pore structures of the activated wood charcoal were characterized by means of ESEM and HRTEM.The result showed that two-step heating carbonization process can improve the performance of wood charcoal.It was found that as carbonization holding time increased,the surface area and total pore volume of the samples increased,with pore radius ranging from 0.6 to 2 nm.Under optimized experimental condition,the surface area,total pore volume and micropore volume of the samples were 1288.4 m 2 /g,0.784 mL/g,0.407 mL/g,respectively.
