Abstract

Objective To find out the epidemiological characters of hypertension in Hubei!province, China, so as to provide guidance and data for hypertension control. Methods A cross-sectional study of prevalence and risk factors of hypertension was conducted with a representative sample of 13 865 adults over 35 years old.Results The prevalence of hypertension was 25.1%. It was 25.9% in men and 24.4% in women. The prevalence of hypertension was the highest in rural area (32.0%), in city,23.6%, in town,21.5%. The prevalence of hypertension was related to BMI, age, waistline, oil-intake, physical activity, rural residents,insufficient sleep, hypertensive knowledge.Conclusion Hypertension prevention and control should be strengthened in ruarl area. It is suggested that community based control and health education should be the priority in hypertension intervention.
