Abstract

Language is the root of Chinese. In order to figure out the nature of Chinese education, one needs to find out the nature of language first. From the perspective of modern philosophy, the nature of language is not what Lenin once mentioned atool, neither is what Saussure described asmedia. Instead,it is amedium of thoughts and at the same time themedium used to express and convey the productivity of one's thinking. Therefore, the focus of Chinese teaching should not be limited withinlanguage itself, not just emphasizingrules, methods, patterns, styles and some other stuff. However,Chinese teaching must put emphasis on one's thinking and emotion. It must include the correct generation of linguistic register or linguistic style in real communication which involves bothlanguage andmeaning. In conclusion, the nature of Chinese education is: students should learn the correct thoughts and language and meanwhile enhance their language competence as well as their communication abilities with beautiful Chinese.
