Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of transforming growth factor-β 1 in Wilms' tumor and it's relationship with clinical stages, pathological types and prognosis of the tumor. Methods The expression of transforming growth factor-β 1 in 31 cases of Wilms' tumor tissues was detected by immunohistochemical method (SABC technique), and 21 cases were followed up after operation. Results The total positive percentage of the expression of transforming growth factor-β 1 in Wilms' tumor tissues was 38.71% (12/31). The expressions of transforming growth factor-β 1 was not only closely related with clinical stages and pathological types, but also associated with the lung metastasis of Wilms' tumor. The survival rate of children with Wilms' tumor was negatively correlated with the expression of transforming growth factor-β 1.Conclusions The alter expression of transforming growth factor-β 1 in Wilms' tumor is associated with the invasive features of the tumor. It may be a potential prognostic marker in children with Wilms' tumor.
