Abstract

The basic principle of magnetic refrigeration had been introduced. And the developments of sub room temperature magnetic refrigerants had been reviewed. Then special attention had been paid to the recent breakthrough of magnetic refrigerants with giant magnetocaloric effect such as GdSiGe alloys and perovskite type compounds. And then the research development of room temperature magnetic refrigerants in China had been introduced. Finally, the necessit and important significance of developing room temperature magnetic refrigerants in China was proposed.
