Abstract

Objective: To investigate the difference in immune response to Plasmodium yoelii (P.yoelii) infection in 3 kinds of mice. Methods: DBA/2,BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice were infected with P.yoelii intraperitoneal injection of red blood cells with P.yoelii parasitized. Parasitemia of mice was monitored by observing microscopically the blood smears stained with Giemsa. The levels of nitric oxide and interferon-γ( IFN-γ) in spleen cell cultured supernatants of 3 kinds of infected mice were measured by using ELISA kit and Griess reaction. Results: On the 3rd day after infection, the parasitemia of DBA/2 mice was much lower than that of BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice. The levels of nitric oxide and IFN-γ in spleen cells of DBA/2 mice were much higher than those of BALN/c and C57BL/6 mice when the spleen cells of 3 kinds of mice were cultivated with different stimuli. Conclusion: There exist remarkable differences in the Th1 immune response to P.yoelii infection and the activation of macrophage in different kinds of mice.
