Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of piperacillin-tazobactam in the treatment of elderly patients with hospital-acquired pneumonia. Methods 65 elderly patients with hospital-acquired pneumonia were randomly divided into the piperacillin-tazobactam group(n=33) and the cefoperazone-sulbactam group(n=32).The clinical efficacy was evaluated and the susceptibility test of isolated bacteria from sputum cluture was made between the two groups. Results The total effective rates were 87.8% and 71.8% and bacterial eradication rates were 82.6 and 76.4% respectively in the piperacillin-tazobactam group and the cefoperazone-sulbactam group with significant differences(P0.05).Conclusion Piperacillin-tazobactam is effective in the treatment of elderly patients with hospital-acquired pneumonia with good antibiotic activity in vitro.
