Abstract

Objective To study the carotid arteries itima-media thickness(IMT) and carotid arteries plaque in patients with hypertension complicating acute cerebral accident by using color doppler ultrasound, and to explore the clinical value of IMT and carotid arteries plaque in predicting the hypertension complicating acute cerebral accident. Methods To measure the carotid arteries IMT and carotid arteries plaque including IMT,plaque size and position and the lumina diameter of carotid arteries in 272 patients with hypertension(160 cases complicating acute cerebral accident) and 60 normal subjects by using color doppler high-frequency ultrasound. Results The carotid arteries itima-media thickness was thickened significantly in all patients, the arteries itima-media thickness in 267 case were significantly thickened(%,267/272), there were 390 carotid arteries plaque in 186 cases, included 159 hard plaque and 231 soft plaque 86 cases had carotid arteries stenosis, included slight stenosis in 52 cases, midrange stenosis in 28 and severe stenosis in 6 cases, the arteries itima-media thickness in shock group were significantly thickened than that in simple hypertension group, IMT1.0 mm and over 2 carotid arteries plaque and over 1 hard plaque can be used to predict acute cerebral accident with higher sensitivity 75%, specificity 81%, and postive predictive value 80%. Conclusion Color doppler high-frequency ultrasound can be used to measure the carotid arteries itima-media thickness and the carotid arteries plaque in patients with hypertension,it offer value information to predicting the hypertension complicating acute cerebral accident.
