Abstract

The original map data in electronic map applications are always expressed in terms of longitude and latitude. In order to display and analyze the data of a prolate ellipsoidal earth on a planar display, suitable projection method shall be used to project geographical data on a plane. This article discusses several useful map projection methods and some computer implementation schemes are provided too.
