Abstract

The colour reaction of aluminum with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl fluorone(HMPF) has been studied. In the presence of CTMAB at pH 6.30 acetic acid ammonia medium, aluminum(Ⅲ) reacts with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl-fluorone to form a stable complex. The maximum absorption of the complex is at at 559 nm,and molar absorptivity is 1.29×105.Beer's law is obeyed for 0~0.32 μg/mL.The method is applied to determination of aluminum(Ⅲ) in quartz samples for satisfactory results.
