Abstract

Objective The renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) plays a critically important role in the ventricular remolding.Type Ⅲ collagen is one of the major components of cardiac interstitium and contributes to cardiac fibrosis. The aim of this study was to determine whether RAAS influence the type Ⅲ collagen mRNA expression in cultured cardiac fibroblasts. Methods Cell culture and RT PCR techniques were employed. Results Type Ⅲ collagen mRNA expression in cultured cardiac fibroblasts was enhanced by angiotensin Ⅱ(10 -8 mol/L)and aldosterone(10 -8 mol/L),which could be abolished by corresponding antagonist saralasin and spironolactone respectively. Conclusions Angiotensin Ⅱ and aldosterone can enhance the type Ⅲ collagen mRNA expression directly.Their receptor antagonists may be useful in preventing cardiac fibrosis and remolding.
