Abstract

Objective To discuss the security and practicality of topical anesthesia associated with peribulbar anesthesia in small incision extracapsular cataract extraction combined with intraocular lenses implanted under large scale operation of preventing blinding. Methods 1659 cases (1916 eyes) were operated with small incision extracapsular cataract extraction combined with intraocular lenses implanted by topical anesthesia (using Oxybuprocaine Hydrochloride Eye Drops) associated with peribulbar anesthesia (using 2% lidocaine),the the effect of anesthesia and treatment was analyzed atfter operation. Results The effect of anesthesia were all succeeded,all operations were completed successfully,the visual acuity were improved noticeablely after operation,the rate of recovery from blindness was 94.94% and from low vision was 87.21%. Conclusion It is safe and practical of using topical anesthesia associated with peribulbar anesthesia in small incision extracapsular cataract extraction combined with intraocular lenses implantation,it also can get better visual acuity after operation during the activity of blindness prevention.
