Semiotics and the Meaning of Words

The meaning of a word is often very complicated,but the appearance of semiotics has brought a better understanding and new perspective to the study of word meaning.C.W.Morris,an important scholar in this field,has divided semiotics into three branches,namely,semantics,syntactics and pragmatics.As a word is the symbol of a language,we can use semiotic theory to explain the meaning of this word,to observe it in different contexts in which the different meanings of the word can be shown.\;
