The survey on HIV infection situations and influencing factors between spouses in Guilin City

Objective To investigate the status and influencing factors of the HIV spousal transmission and to provide scientific evidence for HIV prevention and control strategy.Methods The HIV infection status of 345 couples with HIV positive or patients in Guilin from 2005 to 2010 were investigated.The spouse of which one was HIV positive and the other had no known risk behavior such as drug injection,multi-sexual partners,history of paid blood donation,blood transfusion and so on were recruited.All of the participants were investigated on suspected risk factors and laboratory tests for HIV antibody,CD4 lymphocytes and viral load.Results The HIV positive rate of both spouses was 72.8%(251/345),the HIV infection rate of sexual transmission definitely was 37.7%(130/345).The age,CD4 cell count,condom use rate and HIV viral load in the case group were significantly different when compared to the control group(P0.05).Conclusions The infection rate of HIV sexual transmission between spouses was high.The old age,low rate of condom use,low CD4 cell count and high HIV vial load were the main influencing factors of HIV transmission between spouses.
