Abstract

Objective: To study the relationship between sexual development and height spurt in adolescent females. Methods: A survey was carried out among 2864 healthy females aged 9~17 years in 2002. The height and weight were measured and the development stages of breast and pubic hair were recorded. Results: The results showed that a better reflection of height development came from the combination of breast and pubic hair(B-PH). Adolescent female’s peak of height spurt happened 0.29 year before B2. B3-PH2 or the stage following that was regarded as the peak period of menarche at twelve years old. Conclusion: Sex development can be used as a predict index of the adolescent female’s maturation.
