A Constructive Pioneer:Reviewing Yu Pingbo's Theories on Modern Chinese Poetry

Different from his contemporaries during the May 4th Movement around 1919 who followed the fashion of destruction,Yu Pingbo manifested a strong tendency to independence from the very beginning when modern Chinese poetry took shape.His theories in this respect were therefore oriented to constructiveness,characterized by his observation of the rhythmic and phonological features of new pre-knowledge of the split between the vernacular language and the poetry,his pursuit of innovations in the spirit and art of new poetry-for-poetry's-sake advocacy,and his efforts to seek more techniques for composing new poetry.These have undoubtedly shown the other side of Yu as a pioneering poet.
