Origin and Development of Flags in Pre-qin Period

Generally speaking,the flags originated from the worship to totems.However,archaeological discoveries reflect that the worship to totem is just one origin.There were two kinds of flags according to the material of which the flags were made,one was silk flag and the other is flag without silk.The origin of those two kinds of flags mainly falls into two divisions,because of different materials used.One originated form the leathered flags and the other from totem flags.Hence,the flags developed into two directions,namely silk flags and flags without silk.The two kinds of flags covered almost all kinds of flags in Chinese history.
