Abstract
In this paper,a kind of high temperature microwave sintering device for fabricating advanced Engineering ceramics is described. Zirconia toughened alumina ( ZTA ),tetragonal polycrystalline Zirconia(TZP)and Silicon nitride(Si3N4)were rapidly microwave sintered by adjusting appropriate insulation and critical impedance matching in the microwave oven. The densification time for microwave sintering process is less then 60 min. The analysis result of scanning elecrton microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD)and property tests show that more uniform ceramic microstructure and higher fracture toughness ( KIC ) could be achieved by microwave sintering than by coventional sintering.
