Abstract
Based on simulation theory, gas blowing in the tundish of a single strand slab caster was studied with water modeling. Results show that gas blowing improves prominently the flow field in the tundish. With gas blowing, water is uplifted by up-going gas acting as a gas baffle.Gas blowing is beneficial to increase average residence time of particles and reduce the dead zone volume fraction in the tundish. It is favorable for inclusion removal.Optimum flow field was obtained when using gas flow rate of 150NL/h with a brick at a permeable certain position.
