Abstract

The mechanisms that cause oligohydramnios(ROH)which is usually associated with an increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes and cesarean sections are not completely understood. At present sonographic detection of amniotic fluid volume is widely used in diagnosis of ROH before labour, but there is no consent in literature regard the efficacy of Amniotic Fluid Index or Largest Vertical Pocket to quantification the amniotic fluid volume and which one of these methods is better related to adverse perinatal outcome as a predictor.Therapy of ROH such as maternal hydration and amnioinfusion that decrease cesarean section rates and enhance the perinatal outcomes make progresses in recent years. We summarize recent studies about etiology, mechanisms, diagnosis and therapy of ROH as well as the questions which need to be further studied.
