THE ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS AND STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE RURAL AREA IN THE YANGTZE RIVER DELTA

Agriculture is closely related to the economic development of the Yangtze River Delta. On one hand, large bulks of grains and varieties of agro produts serve as the fundamental basis for the regional economy.On the other, towns and cities, which have flourished among the growth of industry and commerce, spread around the delta and promote the development of rural economy. In the last 20 years when economy of the delta is growing rapidly, considerable new characteristics are shown in agriculture in the rural area and in the region as a whole. This article is designed to document the economic base of the rural area in the Yangtze River Delta, to analyze the status of rural industry in the national economy,to touch on urbanization of the country, and to identify any significant changes in the production structure of agriculture. Considering its advantageous location, state of social and economic development and scientific, cultural, education achievements, the delta is expected to take the lead in the nation's modernization and the lead for the modern agriculture as the rural area will be further urbanized. This article also analyzes the existing problems and proposes corresponding measures with respect to the current development of agriculture and the rural area:problems in preservation and re exploitation of the land resources with three types of the farm land diminishment clarified,the increase of motivity for the further development of rural economy by means of adjustments of various industries and technological improvement,the enhancement of ecological protection and environmental construction as the rapid industrialization and urbanization occurred in the Yangtze River Delta.
