Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical effect of warm-needling plus electroacupuncture at Jian San Zhen(three shoulder points) for the scapulohumeral periarthritis of adhesion stage in wind-cold-damp syndrome. Methods A total of 58 cases of scapulohumeral periarthritis of adhesion stage in wind-cold-damp syndrome were randomized into three groups,18 in the filiform needle group,21 in the electroacupuncture group, and 19 in the warm needling plus electroacupuncture group. They were treated with acupuncture at three shoulder points,Jianqian(extra point),Jianyu(LI 15),and Jianliao(TE 14),with filiform needles, electric needling, and the combination of warm needling with electroacupuncture respectively. The treatment was applied once everyday,5 times as one course. The effect of all groups after treatment was compared. The visual analogue scale(VAS) pain score and the index of the movement function of shoulder were used to evaluate the effect. Results The total effective rate of the warm needling plus electroacupuncture group was 100.00 %,better than 83.33% of the filiform needle group(P0.05) and 95.24% of the electroacupuncture group(P0.05).The pain score and the index of the movement function of shoulder of all three groups after treatment were significantly improved(P0.01).Pain score and the changing rate of the movement of shoulder of the warm needling plus electroacupuncture group and electro-acupuncture group showed statistical difference compared with that of the fili-form needle group(P0.05).Conclusion The warm needling plus electroacupuncture at Jian San Zhen could effectively relieve the pain and significantly improve the movement function of shoulder joints of scapulohumeral periarthritis of adhesion stage in wind-cold-damp syndrome.
